Merit Badge Challenge
What Is Merit Badge Challenge?
Merit Badge Challenge is an opportunity to earn up to three merit badges over the course of three Saturday sessions. It will take place in three locations around Greater Cincinnati and is open to all Scouts in Dan Beard Council.
What Is The Deadline For Registration?
Registration is on a "first come, first served" basis until all available slots are filled. The final date they will accept applications is November 17, 2006, but it is not a good idea to wait that long to register as the most popular badges fill up quickly.
How Do We Register?
You can register any time up to the deadline listed above. Click here for instructions, and an application form.
How Much Does It Cost?
There is a $12 per Scout registration fee for the Merit Badge Challenge. Some merit badges require additional materials with fees. For example: Wood Carving, Art, Space Exploration, and Railroading. There may be others. There fees will be payable directly to your counselor at the first class. Your Scoutmaster will receive further information in his registration confirmation packet. Cash is the preferred method. Do Not include with the registration fee.
When And Where Is It Held?
In three Saturday sessions, January 12, 2008; February 2, 2008; and February 16, 2007, at Fairfield High School (Snow date will be March 10, 2008). Sessions begin promptly at 8:15 AM (at the first date, be there around 7:45 AM for the opening ceremony) and end at noon (at the last date, plan on staying till about 12:50 PM for the closing ceremony).
What Advance Preparation Is Necessary?
The following requirements apply to everybody attending:
Class A uniform must be worn to all sessions.
Scouts must arrive on time for each class and remain until dismissed by the counselor.
Scouts must bring the appropriate merit badge book (available at the Scout Shop) for each merit badge taken.
On the first Saturday, every Scout must bring (A) a self-addressed, stamped envelope for each class (the counselors use these to send the Scouts their signed blue cards afterwards); (B) a filled-out blue card for each class, signed by Mr. B, the Scoutmaster; and (C) completed prework and any applicable fees for each merit badge taken.
